Traveling around Thailand

It's really cheap to fly domestically within Thailand, especially if you book online. Busses are also very cheap, and even though most have toilets and air conditioning, for the sake of that little extra comfort it is worth choosing one of the so-called VIP busses as drinks and snacks are often included in the price.

A couple of travel tips

Remember to always haggle over and agree on the price of a journey by tuk-tuk (the unavoidable 3 wheeled-taxis) before you set off and when taking a regular taxi make sure that the driver starts the meter.

Shopping in Thailand

One should definitely use the opportunity to buy some very affordable tailor made clothes (suits, shirts etc) whilst in Thailand. There are also great bargains to be found on the streets and alleys where the best deals are done. Thai silk, handicrafts and gold jewellery can often be bought for a favourable price if you're willing to negotiate. It is customary to haggle just don't overdo it - remember the person selling also has a living to make! Remember to check out the many exciting markets - you could hang out here for days!

Thai cuisine

Thai food has to stand out for special attention. It is in itself one of the great Thai experiences. The food is quite simply fantastic and you are able to savour one delicious taste after another. If you think you've eaten good Thai food at home, think again. The variety on offer is amazing, the spices and seasoning are heavenly, and the prices are unbelievably cheap - especially from street vendors where you can pay as little as €1 for a dish such as fried rice (Khao Pad) or Pad Thai (fried noodles).

Exotically different experiences in Thailand Entertainment and atmosphere are at a peak during the intense Thai boxing fights that are arranged all over Thailand and something that one should experience. If you have a desire to try your talents out in a more peaceful way then a Thai cooking course is highly recommended. If you need to screw the tempo down even more then find one of the many Thai massage "shops", lie back and get an extraordinarily enjoyable and cheap Thai massage. Your body will love you for it! And yes, there's always the elephants - ride one and your Thailand experience will be complete.

The climate in Thailand

Thailand is quite a large and varied country, so the climate changes from place to place, but the rainy season is an important factor. Her are some general guidelines and recommended travel periods:

  • Western Thailand: Rainy season from May to November. Travel from December to April.
  • Eastern Thailand: Rainy season from September to November. Travel from July to September.
  • Northern Thailand (i.e., Chiang Mai): Rainy season from July to September. Travel from November to April.
