Travel to Lima - The city of extremes

Lima represents the character of South America quite well, as it is a city of extremes. In Lima, one can find a balance of poor slums and a well-developed business district. Along the coast, vast office buildings and polished boulevards even mimic a Mediterranean atmosphere.

Although a smoggy blanket covers Lima for most of the year, the city is definitely worth seeing. Temperatures vary little throughout the seasons, so Lima’s coastline is a good place to relax. If you are planning to explore the rest of Peru, this city is an ideal starting point.

Feel the country’s history

Lima is home to several interesting museums and churches (you can’t miss the 16th century Cathedral). Spend some time here to learn more about the area’s extensive history and become more acquainted with the Inca culture. You will appreciate having some background knowledge before you explore the many sites scattered throughout the country. For example, a trip up to Huaca Huallamarca will give you a wonderful preview of what’s to come during the rest of your adventure. Moreover, you will also have a nice view of contemporary Lima.

Vibrant Lima

Lima’s nightlife cannot easily be beat. Go dancing with locals in Barranco, where Lima’s best bars are. This area is the ideal spot to learn what “going out” means in South America. Don’t forget to order a Pisco Sour, the country’s famous cocktail. If you prefer a more upmarket venue with a good meal and a nice view, spend your night in Miraflores, where you’ll find beautiful establishments along the coastline. The party animals should definitely ask around for beach parties, where you can dance until dawn during the summer months.

For the active traveller

If you’re the kind of person that likes active travel, Lima won’t disappoint you. Try paragliding from the cliffs in Miraflores, for example. When you land on the beach, you will also be able to rent a surfboard from one of the many shops. Take the challenge and ride the Peruvian waves! You can also travel two hours outside of Lima for a rafting tour in Luna Huana.

Discover Peru

Are you easily overwhelmed by the bustling city life? No worries, Peru has plenty more to offer! Within two hours, you can reach Cuzco, the historical center of the Inca empire. This city is a famous starting point of many Inca Trailers who are traveling to Machu Picchu. We also recommend that you visit Lake Titicaca, the city of Arequipa, and Manu National Park. If you feel adventurous, you might even consider climbing the spectacular Andes Mountains, with peaks at over 6,000 meters! On the other hand, perhaps you would like to get on a slow boat and travel through the Amazon all the way to Brazil. Put simply, Peru is the ultimate destination for adventurers and your adventure will begin in Lima!
