Perth is the isolated metropolis on Australia's west coast. It is not overrun by tourists and gives you a unique chance to experience "the other side" of Australia. Go for a walk in the scenic Kings Park overlooking the city, visit the cozy harbour in Fremantle or venture off to Rottnest Island for amazing biking and snorkelling... or just relax on miles and miles of epic beaches. There are also many great activities in the wine regions south of Perth.
Cool experiences - Perth:
Travel north and try sandboarding in the dunes of Lancelin. For some added spice, stop in The Principality of Hutt River - a self-proclaimed sovereign state within Australia - just north of Northampton. Further must sees on the way are The Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, Kalbarri National Park with the "Nature's Window" arch, Shell Beach, and finally, Shark Bay & Monkey Mia where you get an excellent chance to get up-close with dolphins as they come right up to the shore.
Cool experiences - Perth to Monkey Mia:
Travel further up the coast to Exmouth for some amazing water activities. Go snorkeling with sea turtles and thousands of colourful fish at Ningaloo Reef, swim with whale sharks (depending on season) or enjoy a full-on whale safari (depending on season). This reef is much closer, more accessible, and more untouched than its counterpart the Great Barrier Reef.
Cool experiences - Monkey Mia to Exmouth:
From Exmouth you make your way further north to Broome. Make a detour to the magnificent Karajini National Park and explore the canyons and gorges. Swim in the beautiful - and sometimes cold - freshwater lakes. Arrive in Broome to explore the beaches - perhaps from a camel or enjoy a camping or 4WD trip in Cape Leveque.

The final leg of the trip takes you all the way to Darwin in the north. Here it is all about national parks. Stop off at the Windjana and Geikie Gorges before traveling east to the Bungle Bungle ranges in Purnululu National Park. Here you can also visit the amazing Cathedral Gorge. Your final stop, Darwin, is the gateway to the Kakadu, Litchfield, and Mary River National Parks, where you have a great chance to spot saltwater crocodiles on walks and hikes.
