Travel to Koh Tao - Turtle Island

Koh Tao literally means Turtle Island and a lot of travelers and backpackers come here to snorkel, dive or get the diving certificate. Count on spotting a turtle or two while visiting Koh Tao.
Scuba diving is a must do when you visit Koh Tao. Visibility under water can be up to 40 meters but normally it is 15-20 meters. Avoid diving in November where the visibility can be as low as 5 meters.

Activities on Koh Tao

Apart from diving and snorkeling you can enjoy sailing, rock climbing, abseiling, cliff jumping, wake boarding and yoga and cooking classes on Koh Tao.

A nice day trip from Koh Tao is a visit to the island of Koh Nang Yuan. This place is also famous for snorkeling and diving and the only available accommodation is on the diving center on the Koh Nang Yuan.

Transport to and around Koh Tao

Fly in to Koh Samui and take a ferry to Koh Tao. Otherwise you can take a boat from Chumphon, Koh Samui or Surat Thani. Get around by hiring a bicycle or a scooter. You can also use a longtail boat as a transport to some of the beaches on Koh Tao.
