Even though the island of Boracay is only 7 km long and 1 km wide at the narrowest place, it is the perfect destination for a fun and exciting holiday. Boracay is located about 315 km south of Manila and just 2 km off the northwest tip of Panay Island in the Philippines. The island and its beautiful beaches have received numerous awards from travel publications and we understand why. Boracay is truly a top destination for relaxation and fun adventures.
White Beach is the main tourism beach and about four kilometers long. Its white sand, turquoise water and swaying palm trees has resulted in several awards. Recently it was named Number One beach in Asia by TripAdvisor (2015). This is also where most tourists on Boracay spend their time. Along the beach, hotels, resorts, restaurants, souvenir shops and lots of bars are trying to persuade tourists to come inside. White Beach is composed of three ‘stations’: Station 1 to the north is where the best and most expensive hotels are. Station 2 is most lively and where people come to eat and shop, whereas Station 3 to the south is much quieter.
Opposite White Beach on the eastern side of the island you’ll find Bulabog Beach. This beach is a hotspot for windsurfing and kiteboarding because of its large waves and strong winds year-round. Actually, Bulabog Beach is considered Asia’s top kitesurf destination.
There is a lot to do on Boracay if you want to do something other than sunbathe. There are around 25 diving spots catering to all levels of experience. If you prefer to stay above the sea level you can go parasailing, waterskiing or kitesurfing among other things. Cliff diving is also a very popular activity.
After your day of fun on the water, it’s time for a relaxing massage followed by dinner and drinks. We recommend a visit to the Hobbit House, which is a restaurant/bar with only midgets as wait staff. A fun experience as well as great pasta dishes! The nightlife on Boracay is amazing and you can party till the break of dawn.
There are lots and lots of hotels on Boracay. Compared to American or European standards, even the nice hotels are quite cheap. So this is the place to treat yourself and stay in a nice hotel. If you would like to still save some money, there are also plenty of backpacker hostels to choose from.
You can only go to Boracay by sailing to the island. The most popular way is to take a small ferry or boat and sail about 5 minutes from Caticlan on Panay Island. Conveniently, there is an airport in Caticlan.
Since Boracay is so small, it is easy to just walk around on the island or you can take one of the popular tricycle cabs.
