Travelling to the Caribbean - Welcome to Paradise!

The islands of the Caribbean are a place where you can lie in a hammock all day, drinking from a coconut, relaxing, letting the batteries re-charge, and all with a clear conscience. For those of a more adventurous or active nature the islands also offer a huge choice of water sports and magnificent nature. Book your trip to the Caribbean with KILROY!

The Caribbean consists of more than 7000 islands and stretches from the southern tip of Florida in the USA to Venezuela and works as a "natural" buffer between the Atlantic Ocean and Central America. Even though the Caribbean covers a relatively small geographic area, the islands themselves are culturally very different from each other. There are therefore many different highpoints about a trip to the Caribbean.

A country for every taste

Cuba - a favourite amongst young, curious people with an interest in history, fantastic music, and dancing. This is somewhere, where you can pick up a little extra knowledge about the history and culture, whilst simultaneously improving your knowledge of rum and cigars! Learn some Spanish at a language school in the charming capital, Havana. Relax on the beach or by the pool at an all-inclusive resort. Take an adventure tour to really explore the island.

Jamaica - an interesting, cultural experience, especially for them for whom the perfect holiday soundtrack is reggae music. Party atmosphere; bright colours; happy, smiling people; and fantastic beaches are many of the trademarks of this island!

The Dominican Republic is yet another favourite with the younger generation with low prices, beautiful beaches, and wind conditions that are perfect for kite- and windsurfing.

Parlatuvier Bay in Trinadad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago holds a famous carnival in February each year - a true Caribbean party filled with calypso music, dancing, and happy people. Perfect for those that love to combine a beach holiday with music and dancing.

This is just a small selection of what you can experience on a trip to the Caribbean. There are so many islands to choose from that it is a good idea to speak to one of KILROY's travel advisors who are specialists on the area. They will help you to find the island that is best suited to you,or help you put together an itinerary that allows you to hop from one island to the next, allowing you to really experience the Caribbean.

Travelling to and around the Caribbean

There are many ways to get to the Caribbean, but only a few islands have direct connections to Europe. It's possible therefore to mix in a number of stops on route e.g. Miami (USA), Mexico or Venezuela (South America). Finding the perfect route online can be something of a challenge. We therefore recommend that you contact a KILROY travel consultant for help and advice on selecting the perfect route through the islands. Why not make the most of the opportunity to visit a number of islands whilst you are here? Did we mention the paradise islands of Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, Grenada and the Netherlands Antilles? Each of these offer their own unique Caribbean flavour.

Accommodation in the Caribbean

If you really want to get the most out of your money, and your trip to the Caribbean, then we recommend staying at an all-inclusive resort. For almost the same price of a regular hotel room you get all your drinks and meals included. Other alternatives include small boutique hotels, or simple budget hotels. Always make sure that your hotel has a good location as many of the cheaper hotels are located a long way from the life is!

Price levels in the Caribbean

The Caribbean is generally seen as an expensive destination. Prices do though vary from island to island. If you book an all-inclusive hotel you can live for virtually next to nothing whilst you are there. You can also regulate your expenditure by choosing where to hang out and eat - with the "rich and famous" in trendy bars and restaurants; or with the locals at street kitchens.

When to travel to the Caribbean?

Hurricane season is generally from May to October (but can vary from year to year). The weather can be fairly unstable during this period with the added excitement of the occasional hurricane thrown in. Prices as a result though are also cheaper. For the remainder of the year the weather is nearly always good.
