Welcome to Nadi

Nadi is the third largest town in Fiji, situated on the main island of Viti Levu (the largest of the archipelago's 300 islands) and hosts Fiji's international airport. Most travelers fly in here and many use the town as a popular stop on their ongoing journey to other places in Fiji or other islands in the Pacific. But don't leave until you have tried the excellent beaches, interesting temples and the national drink Kava.

Getting below the surface around Nadi

One of the most beautiful and green islands in Fiji is Nananu-inRan, situated on the north coast of Viti Levus. Experience life below sea level in crystal clear water and swim, snorkel or dive with whales, sharks, rays and huge flocks of colorful fish, and dry out on perfect white sand beaches afterwards.

Also Mamanuca Islands - especially Mana Island is a recommendable outing from Nadi. This is a true pearl with deserted white sand beaches and crystal clear water -filled with shoals of beautiful fish, perfect for a little snorkeling. Close by you will find some of Fiji's best surfing beaches. Watch out for the luxurious resorts and beach around Wailoaloa Beach or Denarau Island.

Temples and festivals

You can find interesting temples several places in town. A must see is the Sri Siva Subramaniya temple which is the largest Hindu temple in the entire southern hemisphere. Each month the Karthingai Puja festival is held here, and if you like more of thiese festivities you should visit the place in April, when another festival, Panguni Uthiram Thiru-naal, is launched.

Nadi eating & shopping

In Nadi you have a wide range of places to eat and drink at, no matter your tastes or budget. Choose from traditional Fijian, Indian, Chinese to Western dishes, and a vast of affordable eateries downtown. And of course a must is to drink the local drink Kava, made on the roots of the pepper plant Kava.

You can find some great shopping in Nadi. Most of the main shops are located along the one very busy and congested main street. Shopping in Nadi is often very affordable and provides good qualitity with several large labels manufactured in the country, find plenty of trendy outfits, jeans, joggers and surf shorts etc. This is also a good place to stock up on electronic items such as memory cards for digital cameras. Visit the markets on a Saturday for some special shopping opportunities.

World's largest insect!

Another fine outing from Nadi is Mount Batilamu, which offers excellent trekking opportunities in Koroyanitu National Park. This place is one of the best to try to spot the world's largest insect named Giant Fijan Long-Horned Beetle, which lives only here on Viti Levu.

Getting to & around Nadi  

Fiji’s main international airport is in Nadi, only about 9 km from the city centre, and local buses are frequently going into town, or you can grab a taxi. You can easily take the bus from Nadi to reach Suva and Lautoka.

Precautions

Remember to beware of typhoons and tropical storms that haunt the area between November and April. During this period it is a good idea to check the weather forecast before embarking on various activities. May to October is the best and driest time of year.
